Statement made on 13 December 2010 by Senator Grant Mitchell
Hon. Grant Mitchell:
The minister has recited a list, which she is good at doing, of what the government is doing at a good deal of expense to Canadian taxpayers. She says that they may be reconsidering labelling, but we have never heard why the government would be so reluctant to have these warnings on cigarette packages. Why would the government not decide in 15 seconds to do that? Why would there be any doubt that the government would want to force the tobacco companies to put stronger, more rigorous and more aggressive warnings on their packaging? Why would it be so difficult to do that?
