Joyce Fairbairn

The Hon. Joyce Fairbairn, P.C., B.A., B.J. Beginning her career as a journalist, Senator Joyce Fairbairn was appointed to the Senate June 29, 1984, by the late former Prime Minister Pierre Elliott Trudeau. She represents the province of Alberta and the Senatorial Division of Lethbridge.

Hon. Dennis Dawson:


I would like to remind all Canadians, particularly the Conservatives, that women earn only 71 cents for every dollar earned by men for the same work. Honourable senators, this reality is unacceptable in 2007. The Prime Minister must know that equality before the law is not synonymous with equality in reality and that women in this country deserve the support of their government to fully achieve real equality.
