Hon. Catherine S. Callbeck:

Honourable senators, my question is to the Leader of the Government in the Senate. While I welcome the housing initiatives that are in the budget, there is absolutely nothing there for the people who need it the most. These are the people who are on the waiting lists at the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation for the Residential Rehabilitation Assistance Program and for Emergency Repair. The wait times are unacceptable in a country that is as wealthy as Canada. Can the leader explain why the government has not increased the funding to these programs and ignored the very people who need assistance the most?
