Statement made on 10 February 2009 by Senator James Cowan
Hon. James S. Cowan (Leader of the Opposition):
Honourable senators, the Leader of the Government in the Senate has, for the first time in my recollection, used the number of 60,000. Senators on this side have repeatedly asked the government to table the results of their plan; that is, to tell us how many child care spaces have been created in this country since the cancellation of the program to which Senator Eggleton referred and the reintroduction of the baby bonus program by this government.
Would the Leader of the Government in the Senate undertake to table details of the 60,000 child care spaces that have been created by the provinces and indicate the source of the information?
