Statement made on 25 February 2009 by Senator Claudette Tardif
Hon. Claudette Tardif (Deputy Leader of the Opposition):
Honourable senators, my question is for the Leader of the Government in the Senate. A list of Crown properties for sale has been circulating for some time. Among them are Via Rail and Canada Post, which have the legal obligation to serve their clients in the official language of the client's choice. If Crown properties were to be sold, can the minister guarantee that the official languages obligations would remain or is this, once again, an example of how this government is undermining the Official Languages Act?
