Statement made on 26 February 2009 by Senator Grant Mitchell
Hon. Grant Mitchell:
Honourable senators, Canadian seniors are predominantly women and one of the fastest-growing segments of the population of this country. They can be particularly vulnerable economically. Their incomes, often low to begin with, are on average $10,000 lower than their male counterparts.
What is this government doing to redress this income disparity, particularly in the case of women seniors living in poverty?
