Statement made on 13 May 2009 by Senator Robert Peterson
Hon. Robert W. Peterson:
Honourable senators, my question is to the Leader of the Government in the Senate. Yesterday, in response to a question from Senator Mitchell, she replied that her government "does not make appointments unless individuals are qualified, and the appointees come from all walks of life and all political parties." It is my understanding that an estimated 1,000 appointments have been made to date. Were all these appointments vetted through the appointments commissioner to provide transparency and due process?
