Honourable senators, recently, in an address to the Conservative membership base in Sault Ste. Marie, the Prime Minister referred to women's equality groups as "left-wing fringe groups." It is not surprising, then, that since becoming Prime Minister he has tried to close Status of Women Canada offices. He has eliminated funding for equality-seeking organizations, cancelled the Court Challenges Program and installed the Women's Community Fund application process.
When will the Prime Minister abandon his plan for a Canada that is backing away from the advances made in most democratic countries, to a Canada where gender equality is trumped by a reformist agenda?
