Statement made on 29 September 2009 by Senator Maria Chaput

Hon. Maria Chaput:

Honourable senators, my question is for the Leader of the Government in the Senate. The new language rights support program is due to come into effect before the end of the year. Minister Moore has not yet announced the names of the individuals who will make up the expert committee responsible for selecting the files to be funded by the program.

The committee will be made up of four representatives of the two official language communities, that is, two members representing anglophones in Quebec and two members representing francophones outside of Quebec, along with four legal experts and one mediator.

Can the minister tell us how the experts will be selected and when the committee will be formed?
