Honourable senators, the Accountability Act was passed in 2006. This legislation included provisions to appoint the Public Appointments Commissioner. Here we are, three years later, and there has been no appointment since that legislation received Royal Assent in December 2006. Why has the government not appointed the Public Appointments Commissioner?
