Statement made on 01 October 2009 by Senator Elizabeth Hubley
Hon. Elizabeth Hubley:
Honourable senators, the government announced seven months ago in Budget 2009 an Aboriginal Skills and Training Strategic Investment Fund with $75 million in new funding over a two-year span. The fund was intended to provide short-term support to Aboriginal people to provide them with the skills necessary to fill specific jobs that are known to exist, by linking Aboriginal employment service organizations to employers who need workers.
Can the Leader of the Government in the Senate tell this chamber how many projects have been approved and how much money has flowed under this fund?
