Statement made on 02 December 2009 by Senator Jean Lapointe (retired)
Hon. Jean Lapointe:
Honourable senators, my question is for the Leader of the Government in the Senate. In the three-month-old labour conflict between the management and union of the Canadian Museum of Civilization and the Canadian War Museum, Minister of Labour Rona Ambrose stated, on November 17, that she was prepared to appoint an arbitrator to resolve the impasse and have employees return to work in order to provide full service to visitors.
Yesterday in the other place, I heard the minister refuse to appoint an arbitrator. Can the Leader of the Government in the Senate tell us why the minister changed her mind?
