Statement made on 16 March 2010 by Senator Elizabeth Hubley
Hon. Elizabeth Hubley:
Honourable senators, the 2010 Budget contains nothing new for arts and culture, an important sector of the economy that has been left out largely of the stimulus initiative. The government's past pledge not to cancel spending was the best it could do. Why has the government failed to recognize the importance of the arts and culture sector to Canada's overall economic future, and why has it not given this sector a substantial share in the stimulus initiative?
