Honourable senators, my question is for the Leader of the Government in the Senate and has to do with the budget.

On a few occasions, I have called the attention of the Senate to the importance of Canada's broadcasting and telecommunications system, its impact on our Canadian identity, and its role in the propagation of our culture, both within Canada and around the world.

In the reading of the budget, the government mentioned that it plans to remove the existing restrictions on foreign ownership of Canadian satellites. I wonder if the Leader of the Government could explain the government's plans.
