Meet Senator

Dennis Dawson

The Hon. Dennis  Dawson, B.A., M.B.A. Senator Dennis Dawson was elected as one of the youngest members of Parliament in Canadian history where he served his constituents of Louis-Hébert for three consecutive terms. He was appointed to the Senate on August 2, 2005, and represents the province of Quebec and the Senatorial Division of Lauzon.

OTTAWA (October 29, 2010) - Members of the Standing Senate Committee on Fisheries and Oceans will visit Newfoundland and Labrador the week of November 1 – November 5, 2010 as part of the committee’s ongoing study on Canadian lighthouses. During fact-finding activities, senators intend to meet with regional representatives and local residents whose lives and livelihoods are impacted by lighthouse operations from marine safety, heritage preservation and tourism perspectives.

Senators will visit British Columbia the week of November 15, 2010. More detailed information will be available shortly.

Monday, November 1, 2010 - Gander and Twillingate region

Lighthouses to be visited include: Long Point, Puffin Island and Cabot Island

Tuesday, November 2, 2010 – Marystown region

Lighthouses to be visited include: Green Island, Tides Cove Point, Allan Island

Wednesday, November 3, 2010 – Avalon Peninsula

Lighthouses to be visited include: Cape St. Mary’s, Cape Pine, Cape Race 

Thursday, November 4, 2010 – St. John’s area

Demutualization of Insurance Companies Concern for Islanders

13 Jun, 2014 | By | Charlottetown Senator Percy Downe has voiced his opposition in the Senate to measures in the Federal Budget 2014 that deal with mutual insurance companies, specifically with regard to how these measures affect Prince Edward Islanders. Downe is troubled by the procedures set out for the demutualization of these companies, which have been founded, in many cases, by farmers who were unable to purchase insurance at a fair price.
