OTTAWA, September 29, 2011 – The Honourable Mauril Bélanger, Member of Parliament for Ottawa-Vanier and Liberal Official Languages Critic, offered his congratulations today to Senator Claudette Tardif, who was presented with the Ordre des Francophones d’Amérique. Senator Tardif was decorated with the honour at a ceremony at the National Assembly of Québec presided by Christine St-Pierre, Minister of Culture, Communications, Status of Women and Minister responsible for the application of the Charte de la langue française.
“The promotion of the French language in our schools, the development of bilingualism in our federal institutions, the evolution of Canadian linguistic duality, the defence of equal language rights, and the promotion of minority francophone communities are all issues that I know are of utmost importance to Senator Tardif. I applaud her unrelenting defence of the French Language,” asserted MP Bélanger, following the announcement of the award.
“I share Senator Tardif’s vision of the promotion of the francophone identity and the evolution of la francophonie, in Canada and around the world,” he added.
The honour, bestowed annually by the Conseil supérieur de la langue française du Québec, was presented to Senator Tardif in recognition of her leading role in the advancement and promotion of the French language in North America.
