OTTAWA (November 24, 2011) -  The Honourable Senator David Tkachuk, Chair of the Standing Senate Committee on Internal Economy, Budgets and Administration today tabled an independent auditor’s report of the Senate’s  financial statements for the year ending March 31, 2011.

The financial statements were prepared in accordance with Canadian Generally Accepted Accounting Principles for the public sector (GAAP) and were audited by KPMG. The auditors did not find any errors that required them to recommend adjustments to the financial information they reviewed.

“KPMG gave the Senate a clean, unmodified opinion,” said Senator Tkachuk. “It is an opinion we’re proud of as we continue to work on increasing transparency and accountability for the institution.”

“It is satisfying to know that independent audits are now an integrated, regular feature of our ongoing financial process,” said the Honourable Senator George Furey, the committee’s Deputy Chair. “We commend Senate staff for their ongoing professionalism.”
