Ottawa, August 18, 2008 - The Liberal Senate Caucus is reaching out to Canadians -- communicating directly to them -- through a website that provides current information about important issues and the work that is being accomplished by Liberal Senators. Climate change, immigration, accountability and human rights are among the topics being addressed in the Senate and, consequently, on this new website.  “Now more than ever, Canadians are looking to the Internet as their primary source of information.  As Parliamentarians, we have a duty to Canadians to use new and innovative tools to showcase the work that Parliament does on their behalf,” said Senator Céline Hervieux-Payette.

Using a variety of tools, including a forum through which Canadians can submit articles and ideas, this new website will provide an interactive means of keeping up-to-date with activities on Parliament Hill, in the Senate Chamber, on Senate Committees and in communities across the nation. “Communicating with Canadians about the role and work of the Senate, and listening to their ideas and concerns in the process, is an essential task to ensure our continued relevance and effectiveness as Senators,” said Senator Grant Mitchell.

The Senate Liberal Caucus is confident that the role of Senators will be better understood through this dynamic and user-friendly website. Canadians are encouraged to discover the important functions of this Parliamentary body and take advantage of this opportunity to communicate with current members of the Liberal Senate at www.liberalsenateforum.ca.
