Meet Senator

Jane Cordy

The Hon. Jane  Cordy, B.Ed. An accomplished educator, Senator Jane Cordy was appointed to the Senate on June 9, 2000, by the Rt. Honourable Jean Chrétien. She represents the province of Nova Scotia.

The Hon. Eymard G. Corbin


The Honourable Eymard Corbin retired on August 2, 2009.


Appointed to the Senate by the Rt. Honourable John Turner, Senator Eymard Corbin represents the province of New Brunswick and the Senatorial Division of Grand-Sault. He has served in the Senate of Canada since July 9, 1984.

He is currently a Member of the following Senate Committees: Foreign Affairs, and Official Languages. He has been involved with other Senate Committees, as well as Parliamentary groups including the Francophone Parliamentary Assembly, the Interparliamentary Union, and the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association. He served as Chair of the Senate Liberal Caucus from 1988-1992. His areas of interest and specialization include: foreign affairs, Aboriginal issues, la Francophonie, human rights, literature, and photography.

A former teacher, civil servant, and journalist, Senator Corbin’s career includes serving as a Member of Parliament, beginning in 1968. He was re-elected in 1972, 1974, 1979 and 1980. During his time in the House of Commons he served in a variety of capacities, including: Deputy Speaker (1984); Assistant Deputy Chair, Committee of the Whole (July 1982); as Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Environment (1971), and as Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Fisheries and Forestry (1970).

Senator Corbin has been awarded the distinction of Commander - Ordre National du Lion du Sénégal and Ordre de la Pléiade.

Married to Yvette Michaud, he is father to three children: Sylvie, Louise, and Isabelle.

He was educated at Sacred Heart University (Bathurst, New Brunswick), St. Louis College (Edmunston, New Brunswick), and Eudist Seminary (Charlesbourg, Quebec). He was born in Grand-Sault on August 2, 1934.
